EVA material

1.Basic definitions

EVA stands for Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate).

It is a thermoplastic polymer made of ethylene and vinyl acetate.

Among them, the content of vinyl acetate (VA) is usually between 5% and 40%, and the content is different, and the material properties are different.

    Main features

    · Flexible elasticity: the higher the VA content, the softer the material, the better the elasticity.

    · Impact resistance: Good impact resistance is maintained at low temperatures.

    · Age resistance and ozone resistance: more resistant to aging than ordinary polyethylene.

    · Transparency and gloss: can be made into translucent or transparent products.

    · Non-toxic and tasteless: meets environmental protection requirements and is often used in daily products.

    · Good machinability: easy to injection, extrusion, foaming, hot pressure, etc.

    · Viscosity: Good compatibility and adhesion to filling and polarity materials.

    Main areas of application

    (1) The field of footwear

    · Midsole: Foamed EVA light weight, good elasticity, shockproof, widely used in sports shoes, leisure shoes midsole.

    · Shoe cushions: soft shock absorber.

    · Slippers: Foam EVA integrated slippers are light and non-slip.

    (2) Packaging and buffering materials

    · Foam EVA can be made into a variety of shapes of the lining, the protection of precision instruments, electronic products, gifts and so on.

    (3) Sporting goods

    · Yoga mats, fitness equipment handles, helmet lining, swimsuit frames, etc.

    · Children's sports mat, crawling mat (EVA splicing mat).

    (4) Toys and stationery

    · EVA puzzle mat, children's building blocks (soft and safe).

    · stationery such as stamp pad, protective case, etc.

    (5) Photovoltaics and Cables

    · Photovoltaic packaging film: EVA film is used for solar cell module packaging, good light transmission, weather resistance, strong adhesion.

    · Cable shields, insulation materials.

    (6) Hot melted gel

    · EVA with high VA content can be used to produce hot melt adhesives for book binding, furniture edge binding, packaging bonding, etc.

    Foam EVA (most common form)

By adding a foaming agent (such as AC foaming agent) by molding or extrusion to form a closed-cell or open-cell foam material, characterized by:

    · Very light

    · Excellent buffer performance

    · Can be cut into any shape

    · Printable, composite other materials

    Material Characteristics Comparison

EVA is softer than PE, more environmentally friendly than PVC (without plasticizers), easier to process than rubber and lower in price.

PE (polyethylene) harder, less elastic, not easy to foam into high elastomer.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) adjustable hardness but often need to add plasticizers, there may be environmental concerns.

Rubber is good elastic but heavy, complex to process and expensive.

    Note

    · High temperature resistance: general EVA use temperature does not exceed 70C.

    · Flammable: Foam EVA flammable, need to add flame retardant for specific occasions.

    · Poor oil resistance: exposure to oil may swell or degrade performance.
